【Rio】HDDプレーヤー「Carbon」の新カラーモデル
Rio Japanは5GB HDDオーディオプレーヤー「Rio Carbon」にブラックとパールホワイトの2色のカラーバリエーションを3月下旬に追加する。価格はオープンプライス。なお、既発売のシルバーモデルの直販価格は29,800円だったが、新色追加と同時に、全色3,000円値下げの26,800円で販売される。
Carbonは5GBの1インチHDDを搭載したオーディオプレーヤー。外形寸法は83×62×15.5mm(縦×横×厚さ)。重量は88g。WMA、MP3、Audibleの再生に対応し、DRM付きのWMAもサポートする。
新たに追加されたのはブラックとパールホワイトの2色。カラーリング以外の仕様は共通だが、利用ユーザーの減少にともない、対応OSからWindows 98 SE/Meが省かれ、Windows 2000/XPとなった。
PCとの連携はUSB 2.0を利用し、USBストレージクラスに対応。付属のソフトウェア「Rio Music Manager」やWindows Media Playerによるオーディオ転送のほか、ドラッグアンドドロップでのオーディオ転送が可能。
なお、既発売のシルバーモデルにはiTunes用のプラグインも同梱されており、iTunes 4.2以降からCarbonへのMP3ファイルの転送が行なえた。しかし、新しい2色にはプラグインが付属しておらず、iTunesを使った転送は行なえない。
Rio Japan事業部の矢野間也寸志ゼネラル・マネージャーは「Appleの他社製オーディオプレーヤーに対する方針転換で、新モデルに関してはプラグインが供給されなくなったため」と説明。なお、シルバーモデルに関しては引き続き添付される。
